Parents need to know that although this Aussie sister act is the opening band for the Jonas Brothers' tour, they aren't quite the squeaky-clean image that is, so far, JoBros. They're edgy and sexy, and the few curse words here and there and obvious sexual innuendo garnered an "Explicit" rating for this album. It's relatable to teens with talk about loss, love, and regret.

Lots of dramatic talk about relationships, loss, love. One song is about cheating, but realizing it's a mistake: "I was missing you…/I let him stay…/he almost felt the same." Other songs talk about being tired of trying to fit in; another makes fun of celebrity girls ("I get what I want/my name is my credit card"). One line says "Revenge is sweeter than you ever were" -- although there's no details about getting actual revenge.

For their sophomore follow-up to the acclaimed The Secret Life of..., Aussie twin sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso are making their move in the U.S. with HOOK ME UP. Catching the wave of synth-heavy dance tracks and computer wizardry, this album features more of an electro pop sound than their previous effort. They're on tour with the Jonas Brothers, so watch The Veronicas' U.S. star status jump several notches almost overnight.
Is it any good?
Already big in their native Australia, The Veronicas are quickly making waves in the U.S. with their edgy, electro pop rock. Not that synthesizers and dance beats are ground-breaking, but the band has managed to stand out with fetching vocals and harmonies, unabashed lyrics, and layers of compelling mixes that pull you in from the start -- like the fast, bass-driven track "Untouched." Much of the album beckons to the '80s electric era such as "This Love," the imitation of a-ha's smash "Take on Me." "Hook Me Up," "Take Me on the Floor," and "Popular" -- an Avril Lavigne-ish ditty supposedly poking fun at celebrities -- are guilty pleasures for their infectious beats and saucy lyrics. The Veronicas are talented, pretty, and just a little bit bad, but these 23-year-old twins have a little more experience to sing about than your average teen queens today, so their lyrics reveal that. You can bet teens will get hooked on this duo from down un-dah.
